These are the terms and conditions I ask you to agree with when working with me in psychotherapy. These terms apply if you are located in the United Kingdom. If you are located elsewhere and work with me online you should only accept this agreement if you are willing to be bound by the laws and professional guidance that applies in the United Kingdom.

If you are considering online therapy with me these are things you should consider to help you decide if Online Therapy Suitable for you

  1. Do you feel you would be able to talk about a potentially difficult or emotionally troubling issue over the phone or video platform?
  2. Do you have access to a suitable device and a safe, quiet enough place/time when you can feel able to talk without being overheard or interrupted for the time required? (Headphones or earphones can help with this).
  3. Do you have good enough broadband/Wi-Fi/phone network coverage to optimise connection quality during your session?

If you are uncertain about any of the above questions please contact me to discuss.

Therapy Sessions

Therapy sessions are around 50-60 minutes for individuals and 80-90 minutes long for family/couples. We will work out the frequency of sessions and duration of our work between us based on what we think will help in your therapy and any particular needs you have with regard to logistics and managing cost.  I offer most sessions on Thursdays and Fridays but work to accommodate individual needs by offering some early morning, evening appointments through the week as well as some weekend appointments.

Booking an Appointment

We can agree on your next appointment time at the end of each session. If you would like a regular day or time for your appointment please talk to me about making a block booking.  If you need to reschedule you can contact me by telephone, email or text message. If you call by phone there are periods of time when I am working in therapy and so can’t be reached. In that case leave a voicemail and I will call you back as soon as I am able.

Cancelling or rescheduling an Appointment

To cancel or reschedule a scheduled appointment without charge, the cancellation must be made by email, text or telephone at least 48 hours before the scheduled start time. If you do not cancel or reschedule with 48 hour’s notice or you do not attend a scheduled appointment I reserve the right to charge you in full for the agreed session price.

I understand that life can be unpredictable and that the unavoidable can happen, with this in mind I may, in some circumstances offer to cancel or reschedule without charging for the missed session. If I am unable to attend a scheduled session I will give you as much notice as possible by email, telephone or text and you will of course not be charged for the session.

Connection problems in online/telephone work

Video/telephone Connection problems can happen, to minimise the potential impact of this we will agree a secondary option. For example, if we are working via video platform we might agree telephone as a standby option. The impact of connection difficulties on a psychotherapy session can be variable. These can usually be easily overcome by reverting to the agreed standby option. If the session is unduly impacted and we are unable to establish a secondary contact method we can discuss options which might include rescheduling without charge or a reduction in session fee.

Taking a break or ending therapy

If you feel you would like or need to take a break in therapy for more than one session please talk to me about this, ideally in session or by text, phone or email as soon as possible. You may end therapy at any time, but I do ask that you discuss this with me at least one week before the final session.

Fees and Payment

Fees per psychotherapy session are as £70 for an 50-60 minutes individual session and £105 for individual, couples or family sessions of 80-90 minutes. Payment is due by bank transfer on the day of the session or no longer than 48 hours after this. I will send you bank details for payment by email or text when you schedule your first appointment.

Privacy and Confidentiality

Your rights with regard to privacy and confidentiality are described in the GDPR consent document. I also ask that you protect our confidentiality through agreeing that you will not record or make available in any form the contents of any of our psychotherapy sessions or initial/interim conversations. For example, I ask that you do not record or live stream our video or audio sessions, make available or post any part of our sessions in any form on social media, or arrange for others to do the same.

I confirm that I understand and agree to the conditions described in this document/page (https://gordon-urquhart.co.uk/terms-conditions/)
